The benefits of healthy eating are nowadays being given more attention than ever before and there are many reasons for this. The overall economy is impacted by the number of people who are suffering from diseases such as hypertension, which is directly associated with poor eating habits. There are more and more efforts to try to get us to adopt a more healthy lifestyle and all the same it is also easier than ever to rely on fast, convenient food that is very bad for our health. In all likelihood, most people think that it takes a lot of work to eat healthily and that they will have to drastically alter their lifestyle. Contrary to that information, people can alter their eating habits for the better by implementing some modest changes.
The first change you can make is to pay more attention to what you buy when you shop for food because it is likely that you are inclined to pick up many of the things without thinking. As an example, if you eat cereal for your breakfast, do you ever check to see what the sugar and salt content is before purchasing? Consuming a bowl of oatmeal will provide you with the energy to face the day while protecting your heart simultaneously. If you’d rather not eat oatmeal on its own, try adding fresh fruits that have other healthy nutrients and as such, one modest change to your diet has been achieved.
Thus, it should be fairly obvious that it’s easy to add healthy eating to your life.
We hope you got benefit from reading it, now let’s go back to mixed berry pie recipe. You can cook mixed berry pie using 9 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook that.
The ingredients needed to make Mixed Berry Pie:
- Get 2 Pie Crusts
- Get 6 Cups Mixed Berries (Roughly)
- Take 1 1/2 cups water
- Prepare 1/2 Cup Sugar
- Prepare 1/4 Cup Lemon Soda
- Prepare 1 Tsp. Orange Extract
- Provide 1 Egg
- You need 3 Tbs. Corn Starch
- Provide Sugar for topping
Steps to make Mixed Berry Pie:
- Pour berries into a large pot. Pour in water and sugar. Bring to a boil, reduce heat. Let simmer about 20 minutes. Mash berries with potato masher. Simmer a bit longer and repeat. I wanted some texture, but you can mash until your hearts content.
- When berries have reached your desired consistency, add in lemon soda. (You can substitute with another citrus soda containing real juice).
- Reduce by about half. Mix corn starch with a little bit of water to make a thickening agent. Add to berries.
- After berry mix has thickened, take off heat until cooled to room temperature. Take your pie crusts and let them sit at room temperature for 15 minutes. Unroll one on your pie pan. Add berries in.
- Now… you could just plop the top on, make an x in the middle and call it a day… but I opted to try to make it pretty. Using a pizza cutter, I sliced the dough and arranged it as so. Brush on egg, sprinkle top with sugar, trim excess dough and cover sides with foil to prevent burning.
- Preheat oven to 375 F. Place pie on cookie sheet, bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil. Back an additional 15-20 minutes. If your pie is beginning to bubble and brown nicely before then, remove foil at that time and bake a bit more. Once pie is bubbling and browned, it’s done. Allow to cool completely so the pie can set up. Slice and serve.
